About OLG

Our Lady of Grace Catholic School was founded in 1953 in Greensboro, North Carolina to support Catholic families in the education of their children. With the support of the parish, today our school serves over 370 children from Our Lady of Grace Church and other Catholic parishes, and from families of many other faith traditions.  We are dedicated to providing students in grades K-8 with a strong academic program in a loving, disciplined environment.

Our central purpose of spiritual development is nurtured through daily prayer, weekly liturgical celebrations, daily instruction in Catholic faith and service programs.  In these activities, our students experience a living faith in ways appropriate to their ages and backgrounds.

The school provides quality Catholic education as part of the Diocese of Charlotte Catholic Schools; many of our graduates continue in the Diocesan schools, attending Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School in nearby Kernersville.

Location and Facilities

Nestled in the tree-lined streets of Sunset Hills, Our Lady of Grace is in the heart of Greensboro. Centrally located, it is easy to reach from all areas of the city and surrounding communities.

Facilities include two main buildings. The original school building serves grades K-5 and houses the computer lab, resource teacher's office, and the PTO office. The upper school building contains classrooms for grades 6-8, the gymnasium, a dining area with hot lunch facilities, the media center, the guidance counselor's office, the physical education teachers' office, the Assistant to the Principal's office, and the Principal's office. Music classes are held in Our Lady's Cottage, which is adjacent to the original school building.

The Media Center houses a collection of over 8,000 volumes for checkout by the students on a weekly basis and offers an online catalog search capability over the Spectrum system. There are eight computers available to the students to accommodate their searches. All computers are linked to the internet to further enhance the research capabilities in the media center.

Administration and Faculty

Our teachers have a true passion for teaching, a passion that expresses itself not just academically, but also in the special care they give each and every student, every day.  The administration, faculty, and staff accept the challenge of living as a Christian community, witnessing to the students and parents. Daily common prayer and yearly retreats are integral aspects of faculty and staff life.

In addition to 18 highly-qualified full-time state-licensed homeroom teachers, Our Lady of Grace School has additional staff that includes our Principal, Assistant Principal, Guidance Councelor, Media Resources Specialist, Learning Support Specialist, Music, Computer, Physical Education, Spanish and Art teachers.

The faculty at OLG believes that parents are primary educators of their children and strives to develop strong, cooperative relationships with our parents through an active PTO, School Board, Athletic Committee, Athletic Team Coaching and a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.

Accreditation

Our Lady of Grace Catholic School is fully accredited by AdvancED through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (CASI).  OLG is also an institutional member in good standing of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA).

Academic Year

The OLG School year is divided into four quarters of approximately 44 days each.  Parents are kept fully informed of their child's progress via interim progress reports, quarterly report cards and parent conferences.  Parents are also welcomed at our school at any time.

Our typical school day goes from 8:10am until 3:00pm.  Early arrivals may attend Before School Care in the cafeteria, which is available from 7:30am to 7:50am. There is no fee for this service. It is not available on days school is closed or if there is a delayed opening. For more information, contact the school office.

Students requiring After School Care should come to the Cafeteria at dismissal. The program runs from 3:00pm - 6:00pm each afternoon. If your child is going to be picked up by anyone other than a parent, we must have written permission. We will check ID until we get to know parents. Anyone else must have ID every time.  The After School Care schedule may include homework time, snack, reading, drawing, outside play, and inside games.  The monthly tuition is based on the number of days per week you need the program. We also have a drop-in program. Monthly payment for the program is due the first of each month and payment should be made with checks made out to Our Lady of Grace Catholic School.

Non-Discrimination Policy
